Jaysen was born and raised in the Los Angeles area. As a student at California State University, Fullerton he took an introductory GIS course because he had always had an interest in collecting maps and the course sounded interesting. He was immediately hooked on the potential of GIS and decided to change his major to geography and pursue a career in this field.
Upon graduating in 2009, Jaysen took a job with a company that electronically mapped and inventoried utility assets for Southern California Edison. When that project was completed in 2011 he moved to San Diego to work for a company that did environmental and engineering work for Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC). His job was to map soil and ground water sampling locations and track any potential contaminants.
In 2014 Jaysen came to work for GIS Surveyors as the GIS contractor for SDG&E’s TED (Transmission Engineering and Design) team. He was instrumental in setting up the workflow and standards for schema and symbology used in the TED team’s project web mapping app.
When not creating maps Jaysen and his wife Christine are avid Dodger fans as well as travel bugs. But his passion is the ancient Irish sport of hurling. He is a member and former president of St Peter’s Hurling club of San Diego, which is sponsored by GIS Surveyors.
